Last Updated Aug 2013

therapy studentsStudents struggle with a lot of issues in their lives that makes it difficult to concentrate on studying for the upcoming National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) or National Occupational Therapy Certification Exam (NOTCE). Admit it therapy students, you can't learn everything in one night. Cramming isn't the key to pass that exam and so is studying longer.

Study smarter during your therapy education. These good study habits may help you hit the high score:

  • How much time should you spend studying? Getting your face stuck in a book all day can lead you to review the same concepts again and again. Set a limited amount of time each day so you can focus on those topics that you need to brush up on.

  • Are you taking breaks? Studying does not mean you have to keep sitting on one place like a statue. Don't be afraid to take a 10 minute break time every hour. Moving around and stretching will refresh and re-charge you to get the blood flowing.

  • Can you concentrate? Reviewing your notes from your therapy programs while keeping that rock music on or listening to your roommate's complaints and romantic tales will not benefit you. Try to get rid of outside interference. A place which is not too busy and crowded will allow you to focus.

  • What are you eating? Keep a glass of water and healthy snacks next to you. Keep your energy level high with nuts or low fat cheese. Proper nutrition can fight exam stress. Eat well and eat right to get good marks.

  • Is it too late? Avoid the last minute review. Once you've got a notice about the exam date, create a time table to prevent information overload and avoid unnecessary stress.

Of course, don't just read but understand what you are reading. Make a slight change to your routine and see for yourself what you are capable of.
