The search of good therapists is on going. We need more of them. Whoever chooses to have a career in therapy should do it for the right reasons and not just for money, job security, etc. Let's face it - therapy school is not so easy.

These five attributes can help students survive school to become a licensed therapist:

  1. Proper study habits. There are a number of non-traditional students in schools nowadays. Learning to study effectively can be attained, just like time management. The perfect system depends on the student. For example, not everyone prefers to study at night or some may think highlighting books is a waste of time. Whatever works, works.

  2. Good time management skills. This is very important all through out of therapy school whether it is traditional or online therapy program. Students should set their priority list right. Is watching a popular TV show more important than completing a paper? The skill of time management can be learned over time, but it has to be learned and mastered.

  3. Being able to work with faculty. Faculty can help the student be successful. They are not to be scared of but they are not to be friends with either. They can be a great resource for help. If something isn't clear, the student should raise a question. The therapy student should find educators who love to teach and who still remembers what it was like to be a student.

  4. Being able to manage budget. The student must know the value of money. An emergency can happen any time. Nobody knows. Higher therapy education isn't cheap and for that, there are loans, grants and scholarships therapy schoolavailable.

  5. Supportive family and friends. A student's life in school will change to some degree. They will have to do activities which they didn't before like grocery shopping and doing the laundry. Having a strong support can help the student both emotionally and practically.

One of the most challenging and best times of a therapist's life is therapy school. Therapy students have the opportunity to grow professionally and personally.
