Five Therapy Career Tips for New Graduates

therapy careerCompleting school and being a new therapist can be a huge excitement and at the same time, it is difficult to go around since the health care industry can be quite confusing. From communicating with patients and interacting with doctors, these five practices can make it easier for the therapists to improve their new therapy career.

  1. Keep your relationship healthy with other new graduates. Other new graduates may experience similar situations as you. Speak with them and offer advice or support to learn from each other. It is helpful mentally and emotionally to feel like you are not the only one who is facing those struggles.
     
  2. Connect with the experts. There's a huge difference between a new therapist and an expert therapist when it comes to their experiences and confidence in facing problems. Find a senior therapist who you can trust and connect with easily. She may be your previous teacher or a colleague. Form relationships with them and see the difference in your new career as you gain experience with them.
     
  3. Think about what you are good at. Don't worry if you are not satisfied on the start of your new therapy career. Everyday, you are gaining skills that will be useful as you go along in your career. Don't give up. One day, you will find your niche. The health care industry is huge and you will eventually find something that best suits you. Be open to positions and spend time researching on them.   4. Review your workplace's policies and procedures. Knowing the laws around is important and a best practice to ensure patient safety and it will also help you perform better. Make an effort to go through them at work or at home as patient safety is essential.
     
  5. new therapistsRemind yourself why you chose this profession. Some new therapist graduates tend to become overwhelmed with all the tasks that has to be done. Take sometime to relax and breathe. A five minutes conversation with your patients will make you realize how much you are helping your patients and you can even learn a lot from them! You would be surprised how these moments can life you up.

Make it a goal to be a successful therapist. Hopefully, these guidelines will lead you to that goal and help you in your therapy career. Just think of how far you have come and how much more you can achieve. Don't give up!
