You did it! After creating an outstanding therapist resume and getting through the job interview, you've finally landed on your dream therapy job. What's making you so nervous about your first day at work? You must be wondering if your boss and co-workers would be nice and if they would like you. Are you asking yourself those scary questions about your therapy career?
Don't be too hard on yourself. Surviving your first day at a new job isn't tough at all! Here are few tips that you can follow:
- Sleep well and eat well. Are you too stressed that you can't fall asleep the night before your first day? Getting 8 hours of sleep is very important. It will help you stay fresh and focused the next day. Go to bed early and allot some time for breakfast. Don't go to work with an empty stomach!
- Prepare yourself. Before you sleep, be sure to have everything ready for the next day. Your clothes, documents and lunch. You will be able to sleep better without having the trouble thinking about what else did you forget.
- Review. If you have doubts about the job or anything that you are unfamiliar with, it's best if you study in advance to boost your self-confidence.
- Think positively. Keep reminding yourself that you deserve this therapy job. You've worked hard for it and you will be a successful therapy professional. You can do it!
- Do not be late. Running late on your first day of work is a big no-no. Start off your day right to avoid getting stressed all day. Familiarize yourself with the location. Arrive at least 15 minutes early
so you would have time to freshen up before the long day ahead.
- People are people. Your new boss and co-workers are human beings just like you. Impress them but don't get scared of them. Adjust smoothly and feel comfortable with them around.
- Take your time to learn everything. Your boss does not expect you to learn everything on your first day itself. Rushing into learning everything will only cause mistakes. Don't expect too much from yourself.
- Relax. It's a new job, new people to get to know, a fresh start to learn more. Enjoy everything about the new therapy job you just earned!
