What’s harder than getting in shape? Getting motivated to start! You begin with good intentions, and even some well wishes, but after a while you fizzle.
Wait! It doesn’t have to be this way. You can get in shape and stick with it! Today you’ll learn not only how to motivate yourself to get started, but how to keep it going and reach your goal.
1. Decide “Why?”
Look within yourself and choose a real, close-to-your-heart reason for you to get in shape. It must be something so compelling that if you don’t do it, you will feel bad. Follow this reasoning and you will go after your goal whole-heartedly and strive for nothing but success.
2. Revisit the Past
Chances are you’ve attempted to get in shape before, only to give in and give up. Don’t repeat the past - figure out what did or didn’t happen previously that stopped you. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. This time, change what you’re doing so you can have a different and better outcome.
3. Assemble Your Team
Make getting into shape easier by assembling a team of experts to help you. Don’t worry; I’m not advocating that you spend loads of money, unless you want to. But you will need to invest your time.
You will need advice and direction from three separate areas:
· Fitness
· Nutrition
· Behavior Modification
You may choose to hire professionals, purchase magazines or books, or conduct research on the Internet. Either way, you will have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips.
4. Get Your Kitchen in Shape
It is imperative that you prepare your kitchen to help you stay on track. Start out by de-junking your kitchen. Get rid of foods containing refined, processed sugars and high fat. Stock up on whole foods including fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
5. Plan to Succeed
“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” as the saying goes. Plan out how you will accomplish your goal.
· Create a meal plan for each day
· Schedule time to grocery shop each week
· Create a workout plan for each of your workout days
· Mark out time to rest
Let everyone involved in your life know that these activities are priorities, and stick to the schedule.
6. Prepare for Setbacks
Even the best plan will have set backs. It’s inevitable. Whether it comes from a broken treadmill, an unsupportive spouse or well-meaning friend, you have to be prepared. Don’t allow a bump in the road to wreck your plans of success. Stop, take a breath, think of the best course of action and keep pushing forward.
7. Create a Reward System
Just starting a program to get in shape deserves a reward, so does completing it. But, don’t forget the increments in between; reward yourself for those little “giant steps.” Your rewards can be as individual as you are.
